Information for Charities

Most non-profit organizations seek contributions in any form to off-set their overhead costs, and most importantly, to help others. To assist you in soliciting vehicle donations, below are answers to several commonly asked questions.

Northwest Charity Donation Service will act as your representative in accepting the donations and forwarding the proceeds to your organization.

Why would someone donate their vehicle to your charity-cause?

  • To help you substantially to contribute to the public good.
  • This process will help the donor to avoid the headache of trying to sell a car, ad expenses, fielding phone calls, showing it, or haggling over the price.
  • Avoid the process of confusing DMV paperwork.
  • Free vehicle pick-up.

What benefit is there to your organization to encourage your donors to donate through Northwest Donation Servic?

  • We charge less commission than other auction companies -- that means more money goes directly to your organization.
  • We do the little things to improve the value of the vehicle before it goes to auction so the vehicle will bring the highest possible price.
  • We agressively advertise that we will accept donations on your behalf.
  • Your donor has already elected to donate to a local charity. They are likely to prefer to deal with our local auction and transport companies as well.

What donations will we accept on your behalf?

  • Most cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RV's, and motorcycles.

Is the donation tax deductible?

  • Yes, your donations are tax deductible. Individual tax situations vary, so the donor should check with a tax professional to determine what, if any, tax benefits exist.

What does your donor need to do to donate a vehicle?

  • Call or contact Northwest Donation Service.
  • Have the key and title to the vehicle available
  • Identify your organization as the recipient of the proceeds.

How is the value of the vehicle determined?

  • The IRS considers the value of any allowable deduction as the actual sale price of the vehicle.

How will the vehicle be picked up?

  • NWCDS will arrange for a local transport company that specializes in donated vehicles to pick-up the vehicle.

When does the liability to your donor end?

  • When the vehicle is picked up.
  • The donor will be contacted within three or four days for arrangements.
